Senior Imaging Scientist
Are you passionate about applying imaging science to solve real-world clinical and technical challenges? Join Hologic’s R&D Image Science Group as a Senior Imaging Scientist, where you will play a critical role in advancing breast imaging technologies from concept through development. In this position, you will apply a deep understanding of image formation, image processing, and quantitative image analysis to improve system performance, image quality, and clinical value—working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scientifically grounded imaging solutions into products.
This role is based in Marlborough, MA, with on-site collaboration as needed to support project and team activities.
What You’ll Do:
· Serve as an image science contributor across breast imaging systems, applying imaging physics expertise to improve end-to-end system and image performance.
· Drive the evaluation and refinement of image formation, reconstruction, and processing approaches to enhance image quality, robustness, and clinical value.
· Analyze imaging acquisition strategies, system architectures, and design options to inform technical decisions throughout development.
· Develop and apply quantitative image quality metrics to characterize system performance and guide optimization efforts.
· Plan and execute simulation, modeling, and experimental studies to assess performance trade-offs and system limitations.
· Interpret experimental and quantitative results to translate image science findings into actionable design recommendations.
· Partner closely with cross-functional teams to integrate clinical insight into system design, development, and validation activities.
· Provide technical input and leadership during concept evaluation, risk assessment, and performance optimization phases of product development.
· Support system testing and validation through image quality assessment, data analysis, and performance characterization.
· Monitor advances in imaging science and apply relevant methods and concepts to ongoing and future Hologic imaging programs.
What You’ll Bring:
· PhD in physics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
· 1–3 years of post-PhD experience in medical imaging or a closely related applied imaging discipline.
· Strong foundation in imaging physics, image formation, and reconstruction, with experience relevant to clinical imaging systems.
· Expertise in image processing, computational imaging, modeling, and quantitative image analysis.
· Experience using scientific computing tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, or similar) for data analysis, modeling, and evaluation.
· Hands-on experience with imaging experiments, prototype evaluation, or system performance characterization.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to connect scientific principles to practical system behavior.
· Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts.
· Ability to work independently while providing technical leadership within cross-functional teams.
